Take attendance for a class

Set up a Google Meet class so Attensa records it, then open the meeting to see who attended and for how long.

Updated

On this page

Attensa records attendance without you doing anything during the class. What you do is set the class up well, and review it afterwards.

Before the class

  1. Make sure Google is connected to your workspace with the account that organizes the class. Attensa only records meetings organized by the connected account. See Connect Google.
  2. Create the class as a Google Calendar event with a Google Meet link, and give it a clear title such as “Biology 101”. Attensa uses the event title as the meeting’s name and to group repeat classes.
  3. Invite students by email on the event. This helps Attensa show each student’s email address; see Matching attendees to email addresses.
  4. Start the class from that Meet link.

After the class

  1. Wait for the meeting to end. Attensa imports it automatically, usually within a day, or you can open Meetings and choose Sync now.
  2. Open Meetings and select the class. Meetings are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, This week, Earlier), and you can search by title, meeting code, or participant.
  3. On the meeting page, each participant shows their name, email, and how much of the meeting they were present. Expand a person to see First joined, Last left, and how many join/leave sessions they had.

Where to find it: Meetings then Your class then Participants

What you can do from the meeting page

  • Export CSV or Export PDF for the whole meeting. See Exports and reports.
  • Issue certificates to people who attended enough (owner and administrators). See Attendance certificates.
  • Open the matching Google Calendar event from the card at the bottom.
  • View participant profile to see one person’s history across all your classes.

Note

If a class you expected is missing, see A meeting is missing.

Tip

Google starts a new meeting record each time a call ends and restarts. If your class was interrupted, it can arrive as several short records. The Sessions page counts them as one class per day.
