Connect Google: what each permission is used for
The Google permissions Attensa asks for (Meet, Calendar, Contacts, Drive) explained in plain language, and what each is used for.
Updated
On this page
When you sign in, Google shows a consent screen listing permissions. Attensa asks for them together so that one approval connects your workspace. All are read-only, except Drive, which is limited to files Attensa itself creates.
| On Google’s screen | What Attensa uses it for | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Google Meet: read information about your Meet conferences | Reads the meetings you organized: when they started and ended, the meeting code, each participant’s display name, and each time they joined and left. This is the attendance record itself. | Never reads audio, video, recordings, chat, or transcripts. |
| Google Calendar: see and download calendars you can access | Reads events that have a Meet link, to give meetings their real titles, group recurring classes, and match people to email addresses. | Other events are discarded straight away. Attensa never creates or edits events. |
| Google Contacts: see and download your contacts | Looks up the name, email address, and photo of people who appeared in your meetings, because Meet often shares only a display name. | Your contact list is not downloaded or copied. |
| Google Drive: only files you use with this app | Reserved for saving exported reports and certificates to your Drive. Attensa does not use it today. | Never gives access to your other Drive files. |
The optional history permission
A fifth permission, View audit reports for your G Suite domain, appears only if a Google Workspace administrator chooses to import older meetings. It is explained in Your first sync, and importing older meetings.
Sign-in and workspace connection
Signing in proves who you are. The workspace connection is the Google account whose meetings Attensa reads. For the person who creates a workspace they are the same account. A workspace is connected to one Google account at a time, and only the owner and administrators can connect, reconnect, or disconnect it. See How the Google connection works.
Important
Approve every permission on Google’s screen. If you untick one, Attensa cannot import attendance, and the Integrations page shows it as not authorized. Choose Reconnect to try again.
You can review or remove Attensa’s access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, or from Integrations in your workspace.
