How attendance is calculated and shown

How Attensa turns Google’s join and leave events into minutes present, an attendance percentage, and the timelines you see.

Updated

On this page

Google Meet reports each time a participant joins and leaves. Attensa uses those events directly, and the same calculation backs the meeting page, the participant profile, exports, and certificate eligibility.

Time present

  • Each join and leave is one join/leave session.
  • Sessions are clipped to the meeting: time outside the meeting’s start and end is ignored.
  • Overlapping sessions are merged, so someone joined on two devices at once is not counted twice.
  • If a meeting is still running, the current time is used as its end.

Attendance percentage

The percentage is time present divided by the meeting’s duration, capped at 100%. A person present for 45 minutes of a 60-minute meeting shows 75%.

What the screens show

WhereWhat you see
Meeting page, per personA circular timeline showing the share of the meeting present, plus First joined, Last left, and the number of join/leave sessions.
People pageEach person’s meetings, total time present, and attendance history. On Basic these totals cover only the recent window your plan shows.
OverviewMeetings captured, known participants, time observed, repeat engagement, and a few charts. “Frequent”, “Returning”, and “New” mean 3 or more meetings, 2 meetings, and 1 meeting.
Percentage rings on a person’s profileGreen at 80% and above, orange from 50%, red below 50%.

Good to know

  • Attensa shows what Google reported. It cannot tell whether someone was actually listening while connected.
  • A person who joins as a guest, or with a different Google account, is reported by Google as a separate participant.
  • Certificates keep the percentage as it was on the day they were issued; later re-syncs never change an issued certificate.
  • Take attendance for a class
  • Issue and download attendance certificates
  • Recurring sessions and class registers
